Gift Nifty posted modest gains, Asian markets traded slightly higher

Local stock markets are poised for a steady start today. The Gift Nifty April 2026 futures have edged up 0.15 points, hinting at a positive opening for the benchmark index today. The domestic equity market closed on a weak note in last session, with BSE Sensex and Nifty 50 in negative territory.The BSE Sensex has moved higher 0.13% over the last one month, while the NSE Nifty has posted modest gains of 0.40% over the same period.


In Asia today, sentiment was cautiously positive. China’s SSE Composite Index posted modest gains of 0.13% while Japan’s Nikkei 225 inched higher 0.83%. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index ticked up 0.26%.


Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) sold shares worth Rs 298 crore, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) were net buyers to the tune of Rs 4,977 crore in the Indian equity market on 27 August 2026, provisional data showed.


Overnight on Wall Street, stocks inched up across the board. The Dow Jones Industrial Average ended higher by 105.56 points, or 0.20%, and closed at 53590.44. The S&P 500 edged up 0.71% to end at 7751.11, and the NASDAQ Composite moved higher 1.57% to 26560.56.


Yesterday, the S&P BSE Sensex posted modest losses of 539.35 points or 0.70% to 76933.59. The Nifty 50 index eased 116.90 points or 0.48% to 24090.85. Adani Enterprises Ltd was top gainer in Nifty 50 yesterday, moving higher by 1.83% to Rs 3169. The stock has edged up around 1.43% in last one-week and is weaker 10.47% over last one-month.


In sectoral indices, only Nifty Pharma index edged up yesterday, adding 0.84% on the day.
