Gift Nifty traded marginally lower, Asian markets traded slightly higher

Local stock markets are expected to begin on a subdued note today. The Gift Nifty April 2026 futures have edged lower by 0.25 points, hinting at a soft opening for the benchmark index today. The domestic equity market ended slightly lower in last session, with BSE Sensex and Nifty 50 a tad lower.The BSE Sensex has drifted lower 5.82% over the last one month, while the NSE Nifty has edged lower 6.06% over the same period.


In Asia today, sentiment was steady. China’s SSE Composite Index moved higher 0.31% while Japan’s Nikkei 225 posted modest gains of 2.40%. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index edged lower 0.12%.


Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) sold shares worth Rs 10,148 crore, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) were net buyers to the tune of Rs 11,271 crore in the Indian equity market on 30 September 2026, provisional data showed.


Overnight on Wall Street, stocks eased across the board. The Dow Jones Industrial Average ended lower by 443.87 points, or 0.86%, and closed at 50927.05. The S&P 500 inched higher 0.33% to end at 7752.75, and the NASDAQ Composite edged up 0.26% to 26887.44.


Yesterday, the S&P BSE Sensex posted modest losses of 48.78 points or 0.07% to 72480.29. The Nifty 50 index slipped 95.75 points or 0.42% to 22620.45. Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd was top gainer in Nifty 50 yesterday, inching higher 2.71% to Rs 417. The stock has posted modest gains of around 1.43% in last one-week and is lower 10.47% over last one-month.


In sectoral indices, only Nifty Media index ticked up yesterday, advancing 2.74% on the day.
