Gift Nifty was slightly higher, Asian markets were marginally higher

Local stock markets may see a muted start today. The Gift Nifty April 2026 futures have edged up 0.02 points, hinting at a positive opening for the benchmark index today. The domestic equity market finished marginally lower in last session, with BSE Sensex and Nifty 50 slightly lower.The BSE Sensex has edged lower 6.54% over the last one month, while the NSE Nifty has posted modest losses of 6.79% over the same period.


In Asia today, sentiment was steady. China’s SSE Composite Index moved higher 0.31% while Japan’s Nikkei 225 ticked up 2.53%. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index eased 0.16%.


Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) sold shares worth Rs 9,484 crore, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) were net buyers to the tune of Rs 10,041 crore in the Indian equity market on 4 October 2026, provisional data showed.


Overnight on Wall Street, stocks edged higher across the board. The Dow Jones Industrial Average finished higher by 250.40 points, or 0.49%, and closed at 51197.96. The S&P 500 edged up 0.06% to end at 7794.25, and the NASDAQ Composite inched higher 1.17% to 27207.73.


Yesterday, the S&P BSE Sensex ended slightly lower by 570.59 points or 0.79% to 71909.70. The Nifty 50 index posted modest losses of 198.50 points or 0.88% to 22421.95. Infosys Ltd was top gainer in Nifty 50 yesterday, posting modest gains of 4.11% to Rs 1035. The stock has edged up around 1.43% in last one-week and stands lower 10.47% over last one-month.


In sectoral indices, only Nifty IT index ended slightly higher yesterday, up 2.17% on the day.
