Gift Nifty was slightly lower, Asian markets were marginally higher

Local stock markets are likely to start on a cautious note today. The Gift Nifty April 2026 futures are trading 0.24 points lower, suggesting a muted to negative start for the benchmark index today. The domestic equity market finished marginally lower in last session, with BSE Sensex and Nifty 50 modestly lower.The BSE Sensex has edged up 0.41% over the last one month, while the NSE Nifty has risen slightly 0.70% over the same period. In Asia today, sentiment was constructive. China’s SSE Composite Index ticked up 0.30% while Japan’s Nikkei 225 moved higher 2.02%. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index edged up 0.67%. Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) bought shares worth Rs 480 crore, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) were net buyers to the tune of Rs 235 crore in the Indian equity market on 9 August 2026, provisional data showed. Overnight on Wall Street, stocks edged higher across the board. The Dow Jones Industrial Average ended higher by 151.83 points, or 0.28%, and closed at 54057.93. The S&P 500 inched higher 0.59% to end at 7776.61, and the NASDAQ Composite posted modest gains of 1.28% to 26707.48. Yesterday, the S&P BSE Sensex eased 455.59 points or 0.58% to 78499.17. The Nifty 50 index posted modest losses of 65.35 points or 0.27% to 24570.65. Tata Consultancy Services Ltd was top gainer in Nifty 50 yesterday, moving higher by 3.36% to Rs 2452.70. The stock has posted modest gains of around 1.43% in last one-week and remains down 10.47% over last one-month. In sectoral indices, only Nifty Auto index moved higher yesterday, gaining 1.84% on the day.
