Gift Nifty was slightly lower, Asian markets were marginally lower

Local stock markets are likely to start on a cautious note today. The Gift Nifty April 2026 futures are down 0.18 points, indicating a slightly weak opening for the benchmark index today. The domestic equity market posted modest gains in last session, with BSE Sensex and Nifty 50 marginally higher.The BSE Sensex has inched higher 0.65% over the last one month, while the NSE Nifty has posted modest gains of 0.79% over the same period.


In Asia today, sentiment was cautiously negative. China’s SSE Composite Index drifted lower 0.37% while Japan’s Nikkei 225 slipped 1.57%. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index edged lower 0.86%.


Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) sold shares worth Rs 5,039 crore, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) were net buyers to the tune of Rs 5,183 crore in the Indian equity market on 30 August 2026, provisional data showed.


Overnight on Wall Street, stocks eased across the board. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was modestly lower by 9.45 points, or 0.02%, and closed at 53580.99. The S&P 500 posted modest losses of 0.27% to end at 7730.90, and the NASDAQ Composite drifted lower 0.54% to 26419.81.


Yesterday, the S&P BSE Sensex moved higher by 330.92 points or 0.43% to 77264.51. The Nifty 50 index posted modest gains of 84.80 points or 0.35% to 24175.65. Tata Consultancy Services Ltd was top gainer in Nifty 50 yesterday, rising slightly by 4.16% to Rs 2342. The stock has moved higher around 1.43% in last one-week and remains down 10.47% over last one-month.


In sectoral indices, only Nifty IT index ended slightly higher yesterday, up 3.51% on the day.
