India auto retail sales register 25% monthly growth, FADA
06-Nov-26 14:47Hrs IST

The Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) reported total vehicle retail sales of 31,72,466 units in October 2026, demonstrating a 25.05% sequential increase compared to September, but a 23.80% year-on-year decrease. The contraction primarily reflects a heightened comparative period in October 2025, when Navratri and Diwali were observed. This October achieved the second-highest retail sales volume ever recorded for the month.

Two-Wheelers registered sales of 23,21,419 units, reflecting a 29.67% month-on-month increase while demonstrating a 28.35% year-on-year decrease. Rural sales retreated 33.97%, in contrast to a 20.77% contraction in urban markets, suggesting a potential postponement of seasonal buying to November.

Passenger vehicle registrations reached 5,07,768 units, demonstrating an 18.86% increase compared to September but a 14.23% decrease on a year-on-year basis. Utility vehicle demand maintained its stability, with inventory levels observed between 43 and 45 days.

Commercial Vehicles expanded 2.29% year-on-year and 11.19% month-on-month to 1,15,140 units, representing their strongest October performance on record. Three-Wheelers and Tractors similarly achieved their highest October retail sales, advancing 3.97% and 3.10% year-on-year, respectively. Construction Equipment sales registered an increase of 22.07%.

Electric vehicle retail sales attained a record 3.55 lakh units, demonstrating year-on-year growth of 44.88%, with overall EV penetration at approximately 11.5%.
