Japan stocks bounces back as bond yields retreat
10-Sep-26 15:27Hrs IST

Japanese equities demonstrated a rebound on Thursday, with the Nikkei 225 and Topix both advancing 0.2% to settle at 65,271 and 4,055, respectively. The advance concluded a two-session decline as downward pressure stemming from escalating oil prices and global bond yields abated.

However, concerns regarding inflation and interest rates persisted. The Bank of Japan is anticipated to implement an interest rate increase next week, with board member Kazuyuki Masu noting that the central bank will maintain its policy tightening measures as inflation converges toward its 2% target.

The yen appreciated to its strongest level in approximately seven months. While a firmer yen mitigates import expenses, it presents a potential headwind for the earnings of Japan’s export-oriented corporations.

Technology and banking equities spearheaded the rebound. Kioxia Holdings registered a gain of 1.9%, Advantest increased by 3.3%, Taiyo Yuden ascended 4.8%, while Mitsubishi UFJ and Sumitomo Mitsui progressed 1.7% and 1.5%, respectively.
