The key domestic indices closed slightly higher. Nifty IT, Nifty Metal and Nifty Healthcare Index shares advanced, while Nifty Chemicals and Nifty Consumer Durables shares fell.
As per provisional closing data, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, inched up 330.92 points or 0.43% to 77,264.51. The Nifty 50 index added 84.80 points or 0.35% to 24,175.65. In the past three trading sessions, the Nifty and Sensex drifted lower by 0.65% and 0.50%, respectively.
The broader market lagged behind the frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index edged higher by 0.16% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index moved higher by 0.33%.
The market breadth was well-supported. On the BSE, 2796 shares rose and 2358 shares declined. A total of 215 shares were unchanged.
Tata Steel Ltd was the top traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 393.7 lakh shares and saw a sharp increase of 28.67% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock has moved higher 1.38% in last one-month and has surged 21.59% over last one year.
Coal India Ltd was the second highest traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 385.04 lakh shares and registered a sharp increase of 458.04% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock has fallen sharply by around 6.43% in last one-month and has risen sharply 6.87% over last one year.

Index action
The Nifty IT index rose sharply by 3.51% to 31281.7 today. The index is slightly lower by 1.47% in last one week and has inched higher by 2.65% over last one month. It has weakened by 14.84% in last one year. Coforge Ltd (up 5.93%), LTM Ltd (up 4.73%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd (up 4.16%), Persistent Systems Ltd (up 3.91%) and Tech Mahindra Ltd (up 3.53%) went up.
The Nifty Metal index inched up by 0.75% to 13525.35 today. The index has surged by 2.79% in last one week and has risen 7.60% over last one month. It is sharply higher by around 45.76% in last one year. Steel Authority of India Ltd (up 3.63%), APL Apollo Tubes Ltd (up 3.55%), Vedanta Ltd (up 2.47%), Hindustan Zinc Ltd (up 1.95%) and National Aluminium Company Ltd (up 1.45%) rose.
The Nifty Chemicals index inched down by 0.70% to 30190.75 today. The index has gained modestly by 0.51% in last one week and has slipped by 0.08% over last one month. It is up around 4.18% in last one year. Atul Ltd (down 1.91%), P I Industries Ltd (down 1.90%), Swan Corp Ltd (down 1.86%), Pidilite Industries Ltd (down 1.60%) and Sumitomo Chemical India Ltd (down 1.36%) slipped.
The Nifty Consumer Durables index eased by 0.48% to 40543.45 today. The index is slightly higher by 0.58% in last one week and has moved higher by 4.11% over last one month. It edged up by 5.72% in last one year. Whirlpool of India Ltd (down 3.32%), Kalyan Jewellers India Ltd (down 2.15%), Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals Ltd (down 2.06%), PG Electroplast Ltd (down 1.70%) and Havells India Ltd (down 1.46%) moved down.
The Nifty Pharma index rose for a third session in a row today. Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Ltd (up 2.24%), Divis Laboratories Ltd (up 1.98%), Piramal Pharma Ltd (up 1.74%), Torrent Pharmaceuticals Ltd (up 1.02%) and Wockhardt Ltd (up 0.77%) gained.

European markets saw a mild uptick.
DOW futures are scarcely higher by 0.09% today.
MCX Crude oil futures are lower by 1.10% at Rs 8030.0 per barrel.
NIFTY50 futures closed with a modest gain of 0.28% at 24349 and are in a premium of 173 points compared to NIFTY50.
