Detailed review of the post market session of the day.

 
Local stocks ended slightly lower

The key domestic indices closed on a weak note. Nifty Pharma, Nifty Healthcare Index and Nifty Consumer Durables shares advanced, while Nifty PSU Bank and Nifty Media shares fell.


As per provisional closing data, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, lost 539.35 points or 0.70% to 76,933.59. The Nifty 50 index moved lower by 116.90 points or 0.48% to 24,090.85. In the past three trading sessions, the Nifty and Sensex eased by 0.53% and 0.56%, respectively.


The broader market performed better than frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index edged lower by 0.38% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index inched down 0.04%.


The market breadth was unfavorable. On the BSE, 2033 shares gained and 3132 shares declined. A total of 191 shares were unchanged.


HDFC Bank Ltd was the top traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 465.15 lakh shares and recorded a sharp spurt of 142.58% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock has slipped by around 1.67% in last one-month and has lost significant ground 25.29% over last one year.


Tata Steel Ltd was the second highest traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 409.22 lakh shares and registered a sharp increase of 55.23% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock has gained around 2.04% in last one-month and has posted strong gains of 21.27% over last one year.

The Nifty Pharma index inched up by 0.84% to 26848.75 today. The index has edged up by 1.19% in last one week and has risen slightly by 2.62% over last one month. It has surged by 21.08% in last one year. Wockhardt Ltd (up 4.25%), Zydus Lifesciences Ltd (up 3.41%), Laurus Labs Ltd (up 2.25%), Torrent Pharmaceuticals Ltd (up 2.23%) and Sai Life Sciences Ltd (up 1.86%) advanced.


The Nifty Healthcare Index index gained modestly by 0.73% to 16707.7 today. The index is slightly higher by 1.06% in last one week and has moved higher by 0.69% over last one month. It rose by 14.32% in last one year. Zydus Lifesciences Ltd (up 3.41%), Laurus Labs Ltd (up 2.25%), Torrent Pharmaceuticals Ltd (up 2.23%), Piramal Pharma Ltd (up 1.73%) and Cipla Ltd (up 1.23%) rose.


The Nifty PSU Bank index edged lower by 0.94% to 8587.8 today. The index has gained modestly by 0.60% in last one week and has inched higher by 3.65% over last one month. It is sharply higher by 26.57% in last one year. UCO Bank (down 2.67%), Union Bank of India (down 1.61%), Punjab National Bank (down 1.11%), Bank of Maharashtra (down 1.06%) and Canara Bank (down 1.01%) moved lower.


The Nifty Media index eased by 0.89% to 1596.7 today. The index is up 1.47% in last one week and has edged up 3.01% over last one month. It has slipped by 0.19% in last one year. Network 18 Media & Investments Ltd (down 4.30%), Prime Focus Ltd (down 2.28%), Saregama India Ltd (down 2.02%), PVR Inox Ltd (down 1.51%) and Nazara Technologies Ltd (down 0.52%) fell.


The Nifty Pharma index rose for a third session in a row today. Wockhardt Ltd (up 4.25%), Zydus Lifesciences Ltd (up 3.41%), Laurus Labs Ltd (up 2.25%), Torrent Pharmaceuticals Ltd (up 2.23%) and Sai Life Sciences Ltd (up 1.86%) traded higher.


Global Markets


European markets showed mild gains.


DOW futures are edging higher by 0.01% today.


NIFTY50 futures ended with a modest loss of 0.67% at 24266 and are in a premium of 175 points compared to NIFTY50.
