Detailed review of the post market session of the day.

 
Local stocks ended with modest losses, NIFTY down 0.76%

The key domestic indices closed slightly lower. Nifty PSU Bank, Nifty Media and Nifty Private Bank shares rose, while Nifty Metal and Nifty Realty shares retreated.


As per provisional closing data, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, lost 429.11 points or 0.59% to 72,638.70. The Nifty 50 index posted modest losses of 173.05 points or 0.76% to 22,603.05. In the past three trading sessions, the Nifty and Sensex inched up by 0.81% and 1.01%, respectively.


The broader market surpassed the frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index edged lower by 0.64% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index edged higher by 0.02%.


The market breadth was soft. On the BSE, 2245 shares advanced and 2997 shares declined. A total of 219 shares were unchanged.


ITC Ltd was the top traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 500.25 lakh shares and registered a sharp increase of 115.44% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock has risen slightly by around 1.21% in last one-month and has fallen sharply 33.45% over last one year.


Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd was the second highest traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 379.72 lakh shares and posted a sharp drop of 6.83% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock has advanced by around 2.32% in last one-month and has gained modestly 0.63% over last one year.


Index action


The Nifty PSU Bank index gained modestly by 1% to 8088.7 today. The index has edged up by 0.45% in last one week and has inched lower by 4.94% over last one month. It has edged higher by 5.16% in last one year. Bank of Maharashtra (up 4.15%), Union Bank of India (up 2.80%), Punjab National Bank (up 2.39%), Indian Bank (up 1.88%) and Canara Bank (up 1.13%) traded higher.


The Nifty Metal index retreated by 2.33% to 12306.7 today. The index has declined sharply by 2.74% in last one week and has eased by 4.21% over last one month. It has jumped by 23.70% in last one year. National Aluminium Company Ltd (down 4.73%), Adani Enterprises Ltd (down 3.75%), Hindalco Industries Ltd (down 3.15%), Jindal Stainless Ltd (down 2.50%) and JSW Steel Ltd (down 2.35%) traded lower.


The Nifty Realty index shed 1.77% to 822.6 today. The index is up 0.43% in last one week and has fallen 6.17% over last one month. It has slipped by 5.06% in last one year. Aditya Birla Real Estate Ltd (down 2.65%), Brigade Enterprises Ltd (down 2.62%), Prestige Estates Projects Ltd (down 2.62%), Lodha Developers Ltd (down 2.31%) and Phoenix Mills Ltd (down 2.02%) fell.


The Nifty Media index rose for a third session in a row today. PVR Inox Ltd (up 7.56%), Sun TV Network Ltd (up 0.70%), MPS Ltd (up 0.59%) and Saregama India Ltd (up remained flat) gained.


Global Markets


European markets saw a mild dip.


DOW futures are up 0.06% today.


MCX Crude oil futures are scarcely higher by 1.25% at Rs 8630.0 per barrel.


NIFTY50 futures ended down 0.78% at 22618 and are in a premium of 15 points compared to NIFTY50.
