Detailed review of the post market session of the day.

 
Local stocks finished slightly lower, NIFTY down 0.88%

The key domestic indices ended slightly lower. Nifty IT and Nifty Private Bank shares rose, while Nifty Auto and Nifty Metal shares fell.


As per provisional closing data, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, lost 570.59 points or 0.79% to 71,909.70. The Nifty 50 index decreased by 198.50 points or 0.88% to 22,421.95. In the past three trading sessions, the Nifty and Sensex slipped by 1.57% and 1.18%, respectively.


The broader market surpassed the frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index declined 0.99% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index shed 1.23%.


The market breadth was fragile. On the BSE, 1433 shares gained and 3858 shares retreated. A total of 219 shares were unchanged.


Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd was the top traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 766.37 lakh shares and saw a sharp spurt of 283.77% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock is down around 0.57% in last one-month and has surged 4.63% over last one year.


Tata Steel Ltd was the second highest traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 476.6 lakh shares and saw a sharp increase of 96.45% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock has eased 0.03% in last one-month and has climbed sharply 9.20% over last one year.


Index action


The Nifty IT index advanced by 2.17% to 28304.7 today. The index has fallen by 2.22% in last one week and has recorded steep losses of 11.18% over last one month. It has fallen sharply by 17.68% in last one year. Mphasis Ltd (up 4.45%), Coforge Ltd (up 4.40%), Infosys Ltd (up 4.11%), Persistent Systems Ltd (up 1.67%) and Tata Consultancy Services Ltd (up 1.19%) advanced.


The Nifty Auto index tumbled 3.46% to 25384.95 today. The index is sharply lower by 3.18% in last one week and has lost 8.83% over last one month. It has eased by 0.94% in last one year. Bajaj Auto Ltd (down 7.62%), Uno Minda Ltd (down 5.04%), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd (down 4.86%), Samvardhana Motherson International Ltd (down 3.82%) and Bosch Ltd (down 3.44%) retreated.


The Nifty Metal index fell 2.35% to 12460.7 today. The index has slumped by 4.07% in last one week and has posted modest losses of 3.28% over last one month. It has soared by 27.12% in last one year. Lloyds Metals & Energy Ltd (down 5.69%), Steel Authority of India Ltd (down 3.85%), Tata Steel Ltd (down 3.42%), APL Apollo Tubes Ltd (down 3.40%) and Jindal Steel Ltd (down 3.03%) went down.


Global Markets


European markets edged higher.


DOW futures are up 0.36% today.


MCX Crude oil futures are gaining 1.89% at Rs 8719.0 per barrel.


NIFTY50 futures closed with a modest loss of 0.82% at 22520 and are in a premium of 98 points compared to NIFTY50.
