NIFTY edges up, Nifty IT gains market attention as it moves 2.40% higher

The key equity barometers traded with limited gains in morning trades. Nifty moved in a range of 23121-22922. Nifty IT, Nifty PSU Bank and Nifty 50 shares rose, while Nifty Auto and Nifty Chemicals shares retreated.


At 10:45 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, edged higher by 406.85 points or 0.55% to 74,259.75. The Nifty 50 index posted modest gains of 75.75 points or 0.33% to 22,964.70.


The broader market lagged behind the frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index retreated 0.89% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index declined 1.32%.


The market breadth was negative. On the BSE, 1358 shares advanced and 3273 shares fell. A total of 259 shares were unchanged.


Nifty IT index rallied 2.40% to 32272. The index has gained 9.31% in last one month and retreated 10.70% over last one year. Wipro, up 3.96%, led the gainers followed by Infosys, inching higher 3.36% and Mphasis, adding 2.69%, respectively. All 10 constituents are advancing today.


Nifty PSU Bank index posted modest gains of 0.67% to 8350. The index has edged lower 0.22% in last one month and edged higher by 5.55% over last one year. Bank of India, gaining 1.60%, led the gainers followed by Union Bank (I), edging up 1.25% and Punjab Natl.Bank, inching higher 1.19%, respectively. Out of 12 index constituents, 7 are reporting gains today.


Nifty Auto index declined 1.41%. The index has shed 5.75% in last one month and moved lower by 5.86% over last one year. Sona BLW Precis., losing 3.14%, led the losers followed by Eicher Motors, down 2.29% and Uno Minda, easing 1.50%, respectively. All 15 index constituents are reporting losses today.


Out of 14 sectoral indices on NSE, 11 are in red today. Nifty IT index has jumped 9.31% in last one month and is sharply lower by 10.70% over last year. Nifty Auto index has suffered sharp declines of 5.75% in last one month and has shed 5.86% over last one year.


From NIFTY50 index, Vodafone Idea, Yes Bank AND JP Power Ven. are leading in terms of volumes today, clocking turnover of 1812.05 lakh shares, 1641.49 lakh shares and 588.34 lakh shares respectively.


Asian markets posted modest losses on Wednesday. China’s Shanghai composite is marginally lower by 0.48%, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng is slightly lower by 0.46%. Japan’s Nikkei 225 is trading higher by 0.90%.


NIFTY50 Oct-26 futures are in discount of 72.40 points today.
