Market behaviours during the course of the trading session.

 
NIFTY holds a slightly positive tone, NIFTY up 0.51%

The key equity barometers traded with slight gains in early trade. Nifty opened at 23202 and hit a high of 23281 in first half hour of trade. Nifty FMCG, Nifty PSU Bank and Nifty Auto shares advanced, while Nifty Chemicals and Nifty Pharma shares retreated.


At 09:30 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, moved higher by 88.05 points or 0.12% to 74,091.87. The Nifty 50 index posted modest gains of 117.65 points or 0.51% to 23,236.25.


The broader market performed worse than frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index declined 0.83% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index plunged 1.54%.


The market breadth was unfavorable. On the BSE, 1569 shares rose and 2200 shares fell. A total of 209 shares were unchanged.


Nifty FMCG index climbed 1.46% to 45484. The index has shed 6.81% in last one month and plunged 20.73% over last one year. Nestle India, up 2.05%, led the gainers followed by Tata Consumer, edging up 1.86% and ITC, inching higher 1.51%, respectively. Out of 15 index constituents, 14 are reporting gains today.


Nifty PSU Bank index moved higher by 0.90% to 8232. The index has declined 6.29% in last one month and gained 14.92% over last one year. SBI, adding 1.03%, led the gainers followed by Punjab Natl.Bank, gaining 0.92% and Union Bank (I), edging up 0.68%, respectively. Out of 12 index constituents, 9 are reporting gains today.


Nifty Chemicals index edged lower by 0.17%. The index has fallen 6.29% in last one month and moved lower by 1.44% over last one year. Solar Industries, slipping 2.44%, led the losers followed by Gujarat Fluoroch, easing 1.80% and Chambal Fert., down 1.57%, respectively. Out of 20 index constituents, 9 are reporting loss today.


In NIFTY500, Cemindia Project is the top gainer today, advancing 4.95% to Rs 1260.95. The counter has jumped 51.96% in last one year. It recorded an average volume quantity of 13293.20 in last five sessions compared to 24104.19 over last one month.


Asian markets edged higher on Wednesday. China’s Shanghai composite is ahead by 0.57%, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng is marginally higher by 0.04%. Japan’s Nikkei 225 is modestly higher by 0.40%.
