Nikkei slips as oil prices concerns more

The Nikkei 225 declined 0.73% to settle at 65,878 on Monday, interrupting a five-session advance following a partial erosion of prior-session increases.

The downturn occurred following a surge in oil prices after President Donald Trump dismissed Iran’s recent suggestion to reinstate navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. Iran also stated it would maintain its stipulations regarding the vital shipping passage. Escalating global bond yields and apprehensions surrounding inflation intensified the headwinds, as market participants anticipated a contractionary monetary policy stance.

Sentiment softened among investors in anticipation of Micron Technology’s earnings release later this week, a potential indicator of the trajectory for demand concerning artificial intelligence-related products. Equities in the Japanese technology sector registered among the most significant declines, as Kioxia and Ibiden each decreased by 4.4%, while Lasertec shed 2.2%.
