Non-food bank credit registers nearly 18% annual growth.
31-Jul-26 19:49Hrs IST

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has released data on the sectoral deployment of bank credit for June 2026, based on information collected from 41 select scheduled commercial banks (SCBs), which account for around 95 per cent of the total non-food credit extended by all SCBs.

The data showed that non-food bank credit grew by 18.3 per cent year-on-year (y-o-y) as of the fortnight ended June 30, 2026, nearly doubling from 9.3 per cent recorded during the corresponding fortnight of the previous year (June 27, 2025).

Credit to the agriculture and allied activities sector expanded by 16.8 per cent y-o-y, compared with 6.8 per cent a year earlier. Lending to the industrial sector recorded a strong 19.2 per cent y-o-y growth, up sharply from 6.3 per cent in the corresponding period last year. The expansion was broad-based across micro and small, medium, and large industries. Among major industries, credit growth remained robust in infrastructure, engineering, food processing, textiles, construction, basic metals and metal products, petroleum, coal products and nuclear fuels, and chemicals and chemical products. In contrast, lending to the rubber, plastic and related products, and wood and wood products segments witnessed relatively subdued growth.

Credit to the services sector grew by 21.4 per cent y-o-y, significantly higher than 8.8 per cent recorded in the corresponding fortnight last year, driven by strong credit offtake by non-banking financial companies (NBFCs), commercial real estate, and trade.

Meanwhile, credit to the personal loans segment increased by 15.8 per cent y-o-y, compared with 11.7 per cent a year ago. While housing loans and vehicle loans continued to register healthy double-digit growth, the pace of expansion in credit card outstanding moderated during the period.
